Kings Ferry, part of The Coach Travel Group, supported the 2026 Macmillan Mighty Hikes series with a national transport operation, deploying more than 150 coaches and transporting over 12,000 participants across 12 events.

The operation forms part of a partnership with Macmillan, providing coordinated event transport across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Macmillan Mighty Hikes brings together participants taking on full or half marathon hikes through some of the UK’s most scenic landscapes, raising vital funds to support people living with cancer.

Delivering transport across the series required careful planning around different locations, participant numbers and event schedules. Kings Ferry coordinated vehicles, drivers and shuttle services between designated start and finish points, giving organisers one consistent point of contact throughout the programme.

By matching transport capacity to each event, the team helped hikers move efficiently between locations, allowing participants to focus on their challenge and organisers to concentrate on delivering the wider event.

Transport requirements ranged from around five coaches at smaller events to up to 22 vehicles at the largest, demonstrating the flexibility needed to support a national fundraising series.

Alongside the planned operation, the team responded to changing requirements, including last-minute date changes and requests for additional vehicles within weeks of an event. A dedicated Account Manager provided continuity, building a detailed understanding of the programme and working closely with Macmillan to adapt arrangements when needed.

Reflecting on the partnership, Macmillan Mighty Hikes said:

“Kings Ferry have been a core part of delivering the Mighty Hikes series for seven years, adapting with us as we continually developed and improved.”

Working with a single national transport partner has helped Macmillan simplify event planning and reduce the time spent coordinating multiple regional suppliers. The established relationship has also supported the development of the Mighty Hikes programme, providing transport capacity and expertise as new events are introduced.

The partnership demonstrates The Coach Travel Group’s ability to combine national coverage with dedicated account management, supporting complex event programmes through coordinated planning and flexible delivery.

Sam Brice, Senior National Key Accounts Manager at The Coach Travel Group, said:

“Supporting Macmillan Mighty Hikes is something our team takes great pride in. With 12 events across the UK, close coordination and flexibility are essential to keeping the transport running smoothly. Our role is to make the transport straightforward, so participants can focus on their challenge and raising funds.

This partnership reflects the commitment of our drivers and operations teams to work together to support each event and respond as requirements change.”
